Knitting

Knitting, once seen as part of the arts and crafts developed especially or grannies, is making a huge leap in popularity. Thanks to many popular celebrities showing off their knitting skills in public, it is now seen as an acceptable craft by the trend setters. Within the arts and crafts world however, it has never been unfashionable. Knitting is a fantastic way of creating beautiful garments and pieces of art for yourself and others. Knitting is also so incredibly versatile, meaning that you can create only what your mind limits yourself to. Knitting is also one of the arts and crafts that is perfect for beginners; by learning a few simple stitches you can get started!

To get started in knitting you first need two knitting needles and some wool or yarn. Then, you need a few instructions on getting your first few stitches sorted. The best place to go for advice might actually be an older family member, as in previous years, most females were taught to knit at home or school. If this fails, the internet is a source of information. Here you will find knitting tutorials and tips and advice. Your local arts and crafts or knitting store will also be able to help, as most staff will have an interest in these arts and crafts. Once you have your equipment and a technique sorted out, off you go.

There are thousands of patterns available that will help you to create superb works of art from a simple piece of wool or yarn. These patterns can either be bought from your local arts and crafts stores, online or even found around the internet for free. There are also hundreds of knitting groups that meet up both in person or have communities online that will help you every step of the way with your knitting. The different patterns and stitches will help you with your design, but another important aspect is the wool or yarn that you use. The possibilities are endless when it comes to colour and texture, so take a look at what is available at your nearest arts and crafts store and see what you can find!
